Season 1, Episode 6: Lamara Heartwell – Body Intelligence Expert

In my latest episode, my special guest is Lamara Heartwell. Lamara inspires women to claim their bodies as an essential source of intelligence, power, and pleasure. She speaks live and through various forms of media, and you won’t want to miss her Body Intelligence Summit coming up on February 17th thru 2oth. It’s ONLINE, it’s FABULOUS and it’s FREE!

When facilitating groups, she uses a variety of movement modalities for women to develop body intelligence and expand their capacity for pleasure on a daily basis. As a performer, Lamara’s transgressive movement art invites audiences to transcend their everyday way of seeing and look at life through a different lens.

Lamara has spent her life exploring what it takes to live in freedom in the body. She began studying and performing traditional dance styles at the age of 3 and was a devoted gymnast for much of her childhood. As an adult she became more interested in the mind-body connection and focused her studies on dance therapy and the transformative power of movement. She holds a B.A. in psychology from the University of Colorado at Boulder, a coaching certification through the Hendricks Institute, two years of counseling training at the Interchange Institute, and extensive yoga training since age 16.

Lamara founded Santa Barbara Dance Tribe in 2009, a thriving twice-weekly dance event with a strong community presence since its inception. She has curated dozens of performance art events in California over the past 12 years.

As the great-grand daughter of one of the founders of Exxon, her passion and advocacy for environmental sustainability has been influenced by her family lineage in the oil industry. Lamara is as invested in the health of the planet as she is in the health of our bodies, and sees a direct relationship between the two.

Lamara lives in the foothills of Santa Barbara, CA on a majestic sanctuary overlooking the ocean. She is dedicated to community, sustainable living, and delights in harvesting and eating raw food from her garden. She actively organizes community events, creates street theatre, and plays on the magical and wild shores of the pacific. You can learn more about Lamara at www.LamaraHeartwell.com.
